Went to visit The Gardens with friends on Thursday. Had booked electric scooter for my wife following a phone call previous week.On arrival we found access difficult for wheelchair user and no dedicated disabled parking. Scooter was lightweight 3-wheeler, absolutely no use for going round the lovely gardens as there are numerous steep hills and tracks to negotiate.Undaunted we used my wife's wheelchair but were soon knackered by the hills. We had only left my wife's scooter behind as we were assured during a phonecall that a suitable electric scooter was available at the Gardens. A stop at the Terrace Cafe was also painful as 4 drinks and 4 cakes was nearly £18.We gave up after that and went somewhere more welcoming and accessible. A pity as we had all been looking forward to our visit.Staff were helpful but management very poor. Avoid!

  • 10 Five star treat for all the family

Children bored? The Royal Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh is a true gem and very highly regarded for the management of their gardens as well as their links with other gardens and projects around the world and particularly in China. The gardens are beautifully and imaginatively themed with the Chinese Garden being a particularly favourite along with the Scottish Heathlands area, and its collection of Giant Redwoods (though relative babies here really), fantastic glass houses representing different climates and habitats, it also has some very good exhibition spaces for art and botanically related subjects as well as an excellent series of nightclasses and horticultural qualifications. There's much more to it than just flowers! It also has a pleasant shop though I'd avoid the over-priced cafe. Oh and your children can play there too.

This is a lovely, lovely garden. If you're visiting the city you should visit this place, especially if you happen to be there in nice weather. The Botanic Gardens are very well kept but still allow for a feeling of natural surroundings. There are inquisitive squirrels you can sometimes get close to and a large duck pond, this place is also a haven for a variety of other birds. It's a great environment to let kids run around safely and if you wanted to you could bring a picnic, there's enough space for everyone to spread out. If picnics aren't your cup of tea then there's a little cafe you can use, it's nothing spectacular but it is nice and worth going to.

  • 8 Beautiful

The Royal botanic gardens is beautiful and full of wonderful flowers and greenary, it really is a beautiful place to walk in on a sunny day. The Gardens are very well maintained. To be honest i can't say flowers are really my thing but walking in here was very relaxing and enjoyable. The flowers and tress all have little tags which tell you which type they are. They have a big glasshouse which keeps exotic flowers etc. There is also a pond with ducks. It is free to enter which is excellent and there is an optional donation box. You can choose to sit and relax on the grass or you can explore the gardens. There is no car park but there is parking available although you do need to pay via parking meter. I'm not sure if this is a day out for all the family as childen may get a little bored. But i'd recommend that you go at least once if you havent been before. The next time i go i would love to take a picnic and sit and relax in the beautiful surroundings.
