Asbestos Sampling & Testing Service... Asbestos is a strong and incombustible fibre widely used in the past for fireproofing and insulation. The small, buoyant fibres are easily inhaled or swallowed, causing a number of serious diseases including: asbestosis, a chronic disease of the lungs that makes breathing more and more difficult; cancer; and mesothelioma, a cancer (specific to asbestos exposure) of the membranes that line the chest and abdomen hence asbestos is no longer used to insulate homes. Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous silicate mineral popular in manufacturing and industry due to its strength, chemical and thermal stability however it not used as widely as it once was due to its ?toxic? nature. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We offer an independent asbestos testing service to domestic and commercial clients in the Edinburgh and Lothians areas. The process is simple. If you suspect that your premises contain asbestos, call us and arrange a site visit where we will take suitable samples for testing and advise you on any necessary course of action. We will arrange a fast analysis of your sample in an approved asbestos testing laboratory and get the results to you within 24-48 hours. Working with the UK's largest and most reliable asbestos testing laboratories, all UKAS approved, you can be 100% confident that your result will be accurate. Emergency Asbestos Testing Service For Edinburgh and Lothians areas Need something testing in a hurry? We can usually attend sites within 24 hours - and possibly even the same day. All of our staff are qualified asbestos surveyors and highly experienced in safely removing samples for analysis - eg. Artex, Roof Panel, Ceiling Board etc. The cost, including our attendance is just ?120 plus a small nominal charge per sample tested. The cost of sampling is just ?30. Who Needs This Service? A typical scenario is when for example, a water pipe bursts and damages an artex ceiling. Early artex contained asbestos but it's impossible to tell with the naked eye whether it does or it doesn't. In a case like this, you cannot afford to take the risk and should get the surface tested before carrying out any work on it. Removal is subject to strict licensing regulations, so testing in these circumstances can save you several thousand pounds just by ruling out the presence of asbestos! The major insurance companies are already aware of the requirements of the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations, since the deadline date of 21 May 2004, employers and public liability insurance policies are now including terms requiring that you have an asbestos management programme. Non-compliance could result in exclusions to your insurance cover or in worst-case scenarios, complete voiding of your policy. Our range of services... Asbestos surveys in accordance with MDHS100 to comply with the CAW regulations. Sample suspect asbestos containing materials. Quotations for removal of all asbestos containing materials. Notification of neccesary authorities to ensure all legal requirements are adhered to. Removal of all asbestos under strict contolled conditions. Safe disposal of all asbestos at a regulated landfill site. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral, and there are several different types of it. The three main types found in buildings are: Chrysotile (white) Found in USSR, Canada, China, USA and South Africa. Amosite (brown) Found in South Africa. Crocidolite (blue) Found in South Africa and South America. Asbestos was widely used up to the 1970?s and occasionally in the 1980?s (5 million tons p.a. in 1975), mainly as roofing material, fire protection and insulation. This was because it was: Non combustible. Resistant to rot, rust, heat, vermin. Easy to install and work with. Lasted for decades. Controlled condensation. Helped acoustics/noise reduction. Economical. Asbestos Related Diseases are the biggest occupational health killer in the UK. Of the 3,000 people who currently die each year from such diseases, 25% would have once worked in the building and maintenance trades, and often would have worked unknowingly on or near to asbestos containing materials (ACMs). With over 1 million commercial properties still containing asbestos the Health and Safety Commission have amended The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 (CAWR) to include an explicit duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises.
